Lawsuit Alleges Termination for Reporting Illegal Conduct
Springfield News-Leader recenty reported on a wrongful termination lawsuit filed by Buchanan Williams alleging our client was fired for reporting illegal conduct by her employer. The Complaint alleges that our client was fired for uncovering and reporting her employer’s illegal scheme to hire undocumented workers.
While we cannot discuss the details of our pending case, we can say that we feel strongly that employers must follow the law and hire only documented workers. Otherwise, employers that violate the law have an unfair advantage over those that follow the law. This unfair advantage will encourage other employers to violate the law resulting in lower wages for all workers.
The law protects employees who report illegal conduct by their employers. This is so that employees will be encourgaged to report illegal conduct rather than silently accept or participate in the illegal actions of their employers.
We believe our client will be vindicated at the end of this case.
